Learning from Marathon

I was reluctant to participate in the 10 km marathon which was organised in my company.  My Sr. Management team member came to my desk and suggested  registering for the marathon, I said 10 km running is not possible for me though I regularly play cricket. He said just to try if not possible you can stop around 3 km.

The Day has come I was so excited as it was my first marathon. Though the target for the marathon was 10 km, I kept it only 3 km in my mind. After a steady start, I have completed 3 km in around 30 minutes so my confidence boosted so I thought why I should not try for 5 km?

Crossed 5 km also, later I set my target as 7 km after 6 km felt some cramp in the right leg. It still started slowly & steadily and reached 7 km. After crossing 7 km I realized I should put more effort to reach the target.

Even after cramping in the leg I continued and just was away 1000 m from the target. Just away from 1000 motivated me and achievement was calling me each foot I was moving forward.

The Moment has come I touched 10 km in 102 minutes & 24 sec, which was the most satisfying because I broke all my mental blocks.

Key Learning I got from Marathon,

1. Do not limit yourself due to your mental block.

2. Challenge yourself to enter in encounter zone.

3. Set your goal, if the goal is bigger divide it into smaller parts.

4. Setting some targets with a deadline is very important.

5. Do not think about success or failure, somewhere start is required.
